What does an EV charger cost to install in Scotland?

Quick answer

What decides the price of a home charger installation?

The cost of a home EV charger installation depends on the charger model, the cable distance from your fuse board to the parking space, and whether your fuse board needs upgrading. Groundwork or a long cable run adds to the job. A survey identifies all of this, and your written quotation shows every item before you commit.

What makes up the cost

The main parts are the charger unit itself, the cable and protection devices for a dedicated circuit, the labour to fit and commission it, and any extra work the survey finds.

Every one of those is listed separately in your quotation, so you can see where the money goes.

Things that can add to the job

A long cable run, a detached garage, a driveway that needs a cable trench, or an older fuse board that cannot take another circuit will all add work.

None of these are unusual, and the survey picks them up before you commit to anything.

Why we do not publish a price list

Two houses on the same street can need very different installations. Rather than publishing a figure that may not apply to you, we give a written quotation after the survey with every item and assumption stated.

Interest-free credit up to £30,000, subject to status. Your quotation can show the full price and the finance option side by side.

We install through MCS-certified partners across Scotland. Your postcode decides whether SP Energy Networks or SSEN is your network operator, and the network approval is handled as part of the process.

For a broader look at solar panel pricing and export payments, see our companion site Solar Cost Scotland. If you are weighing up battery storage on its own, Battery Retrofit Scotland covers standalone home battery installs, and you can pay monthly for your solar installation through our finance partner. How is the cost of a home EV charger installation worked out?

It is built up from the charger model, the cable and protection needed for a dedicated circuit, the labour, and any extra work such as a fuse board upgrade or groundwork. The survey identifies each item and your quotation lists them separately.

What affects the cost of installation?

The charger model, the distance between your fuse board and parking space, whether a dedicated circuit can be added easily, and any fuse board upgrade. A survey identifies all of these before you commit.

Is a smart charger more expensive?

A smart charger with solar integration and scheduling usually costs more than a basic unit, but it lets the car charge at the cheapest times automatically. The difference depends on the model and features you choose.

Do I need to upgrade my fuse board?

Some older fuse boards do not have room or capacity for a dedicated EV circuit. If an upgrade is needed, it is included in your quotation so you know the full cost before committing. This is assessed during the survey.

Can I spread the cost?

Interest-free credit up to £30,000, subject to status. Your quotation can show the full price and the finance option side by side so you can choose what suits you.
